SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

This scholarship is intended to promote, recognize, and encourage a spirit of community involvement and citizenship in college bound or trade school bound, young adults living in the Village of Cochran’s Crossing (CCVA) in The Woodlands, Texas.

The number of recipients and the value of the scholarship(s) will be determined each year by the CCVA Board of Directors. The availability and number of scholarship(s) will be dependent upon the amount of non-Township funds in the Village treasury prior to the issuing of applications for a particular year.

The candidate for this scholarship must live in the Village of Cochran’s Crossing and be a senior in high school at the time of application. The applicant must be college or trade school bound and have an overall minimum grade point average of 3.0 (B) or better.

Applications will be screened by a Scholarship Committee consisting of at least three members selected by the CCVA Board of Directors.

Any current or past CCVA Board member or Scholarship Committee participant whose relationship with a final applicant might prevent unbiased participation in the screening or final selection of applicants will be excused from the Scholarship Committee.

The following categories should be addressed by the applicant:

1. Membership in local or area chapters of clubs, non-profit organizations, or youth groups whose activities benefit the community by way of personal involvement or actual services provided through organized or individual volunteer efforts.

2. Involvement in student council, clubs, or school sponsored societies where improvement in the opportunity of the individual or a group is advanced through communication, education, positive action, or the democratic process.

3. Participation in school sports, band, choir, cheerleading, pep club or any organized or team activities in which the individual has the opportunity to represent our community to the public.

4. Work experience to include summer jobs and part-time work during the school year.

5. Contributions to special activities offered by way of school, i.e., science fairs, fundraisers, or special projects. This may include events where an individual may have represented their school, The Woodlands, or any Texas region in a competition or gathering.

6. Academic goals and plans for the future.

A personal interview of candidates may be held to assist in the final selection of scholarship recipients. Subjects to be discussed may include, but are not necessarily limited to, those items mentioned above.

Monetary award for scholarship shall be credited on account directly to the college or educational institution in which the recipient enrolls.

If a successful recipient should fail to enroll in an advanced educational program within a reasonable length of time, the scholarship may be revoked. It may then be awarded to an alternate applicant at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee and the Board of Directors of the CCVA.

Information regarding applicants, the actual selection process, and interviews will be held confidential by the Scholarship Committee and the CCVA. Information regarding successful scholarship recipients will be considered for release.
